Buffalo Chips

Survival, a daily concern for the emigrants, depended upon grass for grazing, water for human and animal consumption and a good supply of fuel for cooking. While encamped near South Pass, Bernard J. Reid referred to these indispensable items as "the emigrant's trinity of good things." July 15, 1849
