Diaries
Oregon Trail diaries were receptacles of emotion and fact. Through these personal reflections we begin to understand the pioneer man's and woman's hopes, fears, delights and disasters. ![]() Their words allow us to walk with them seeing virgin landscapes, tasting 'soda springs', and listening to their hearts. Routinely, women who traveled the Oregon Trail were not participants in the decision to trek westward. Their objections discarded, their diaries became their avenue for expression and communication. "I am going with him, as there is no other alternative...." Margaret Hereford Wilson, 1850 |
